Singer Salma, lawmaker Shibli get divorced
Dhaka: Popular Bangladeshi folk singer Salma Akhter and the ruling Awami League lawmaker Shibli Sadique get divorced five years after their marriage.
Salma Akhter and Shibli Sadique signed the divorce paper in presence of their family members on November 20.
Salma Akhter tied the knot with businessman Shibli Sadique in 2011. Following a year, she gave birth to their daughter Sneha.
Clarifying the news, Shibli Sadique, currently a lawmaker from Dinajpur-6 constituency, told NTV Online, ‘Actually, I didn’t want divorce but we took the path as Salma gives more importance on singing than looking after our daughter. I couldn’t take this positively. There are other reasons that I don’t want to share.’
He also said that their daughter Sneha, a Nursery student, would stay with him.
NTV Online could not contact Salma as her mobile phone was found switched off.
Salma, a folk singer from Kushtia, rose to fame after her voice serenaded the nation and won the ‘Close Up 1-Tomakei Khujche Bangladesh’ music competition across Bangladesh in 2006.
Salma has several popular albums such as ‘Best of Salma’, Bondhu Aiyo Aiyo’, ‘Poraner Bondhu’, and ‘Brindabon’.
