Dhaka: The verdict in sensational Narayanganj seven-murder cases has been delivered today. A glance into the gruesome murder case;
April 27, 2014: Seven people, including Narayanganj City Corporation panel mayor Nazrul Islam and senior lawyer Chandan Sarker, were abducted from the Dhaka-Narayanganj link road.
On April 30, 2014: Six bodies were found floating in the Shitalakkhya and the body of another surfaced the following day. The murderers cut the victims' bellies and tied the bodies to sacks full of bricks before throwing them into the water. They were blindfolded, and their hands and legs were tied, according to police.
On May 6, 2014: Three Rab officials were forced into retirement.
On May 1, 2014: The High Court ordered the government to immediately arrest the three Rab officials. They were arrested accordingly.
December 03, 2014: Investigators have found that three more Rab men were involved in the sensational seven-murder in Narayanganj. They are assistant sub-inspectors Bazlur Rahman and Abul Kalam Azad and habilder Nasir Uddin.
November 12, 2015: India handed over Nur Hossain, the prime accused in the sensational Narayanganj seven-murder case, to Bangladesh.
On April 8, 2015: Investigation officer (IO) of the case Mamunur Rashid Mandal submitted charge sheet, accusing 35 persons including Narayanganj councillor Nur Hossain and three former Rab officers for 7-murder.
On February 8, 2016: The court framed charges in the case in presence of 23 accused including Nur Hossain and three former RAB officers.
On November 30, 2016: The court set January 16 for delivering verdict of the gruesome murder case on completion of hearing on the law-point arguments in the case.
January 16, 2017: A Narayanganj court awarded the death penalty to former Narayanganj councillor Nur Hossain and former Bangladesh Army Lieutenant Colonel Tarek Sayeed and 24 other persons for the 2014 Narayanganj multiple murders.
Nine others have been given various terms in prison.
