Murder of JL man: Protest cripples capital’s Norda
Dhaka: A number of roads in the capital’s Norda area were plagued with severe traffic congestion when local Jubo League activists on Monday afternoon staged a protest, demanding immediate arrest of the killers of a party fellow.
Earlier, Md Mainuddin, 40, a Jubo League activist of ward No 18, was beaten and stabbed to death on January 23.
On January 24, the victim’s mother filed a murder case but the police are yet to arrest anyone in this connection.
Office-goers, school students, and common people suffered badly because of the demonstrations that began around 11:30 am in the capital’s Norda and its adjoining areas.
Later, the protesters left the roads around 12:30 pm when the authorities assured them of capturing the killers, said Sirajul Islam, officer-in-charge of Gulshan Police Station.
However, the traffic congestion stayed over two hours.
Closing the demonstration the JL members vowed to continue their agitation until their demands are met.
Another Jubo League group staged a demonstration in front of the National Press Club the same time, demanding immediate arrest of the killers of Mainuddin.
