Dhaka: Renowned litterateur and Ekushey Padak winner Professor Zubaida Gulshan Ara died of old-age complications at a Dhaka hospital on Sunday.

She was 74, family sources said.

Gulshan Ara, wife of late professor Mahmudul Amin, left behind her two daughters and a host of relatives and well-wishers to mourn her death.

She was the former chairman of Bangladesh Shishu Academy. She made her marks in different branches of literature, including poetry, short story and TV plays.

Gulshan Ara authored 50 books and was awarded Ekushey Padak in 2005.

She was also general secretary of "Sahitto Bangladesh", a literary organization.

Her namaz-e-janaza was held after Esha prayers. Later, she will be buried tonight at Banani graveyard here.

Her qulkhwani will be held on March 24 after Asr prayers at her 46, Siddeshwari Road residence.

All relatives, friends and well-wishers have been requested to attend the Qulkhwani.
