Students protest college girl’s gang rape in Moulvibazar

Moulvibazar: Students of Tarapasha School and College at Rajnagar upazila in Moulvibazar formed a human-chain on Saturday demanding justice for a female college student who was allegedly gang raped and murdered on May 18.

Shammi Akhter, a student in the second year of HSC at Tarapasha School and College, went missing on Thursday night. On the next morning, police found her body at a nearby garden.

During an hour long human-chain, the students and local people with festoons and placards demanded death sentence for the rapists and chanted slogans, reports UNB correspondent.

Among others, Abdur Rahim Khan, principal of Tarapasha School and College; teachers Kukil Babu and Mobarak Hossian also addressed the human chain.

Shyamol Bonik, officer-in-charge of Rajnagar Police Station, said victim's father filed a case accusing nine people including four identified.

Following the lawsuit, police arrested the four offenders from different places of the upazila early Saturday, OC added.

The four detainees are Barkat Hossain Sumon, son of Tamjid Ali; Mazharul Mia, son of Choka Mia; Dipu Mia, son of Mokbul Mia; and Aklu, son of Gani Mia.
