Dhaka: Airing doubt about the government's sincerity in dealing with the Rohingya crisis, BNP on Sunday alleged that it is showing sympathy for the persecuted refugees only out of 'greed' for having huge cash and donations from different countries and organisations.

Speaking at a discussion, party senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi also criticised the government for barring BNP relief team from distributing relief materials among Rohingyas, saying the regime did it as it has no sense of humanity.

"The government initially tried to brand Rohingyas as extremists and terrorists. It's softened its tone out of greed for getting huge cash when different countries, including Turkey and Indonesia, started sending money and relief for them," the BNP leader said.

He alleged that the ruling party leaders are still covertly carrying out propaganda to indentify Rohingyas as 'terrorists'.

The central committee of Jatiyatabadi Projonmo 71 arranged the programme at National Press Club.

Rizvi questioned the sense of humanity of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as her government obstructed BNP's 22 trucks loaded with relief materials for hapless Rohingyas. "We're in doubt whether she has any sympathy. In fact, there's no difference between her and Aung San Suu Kyi."

He also came down hard on the government for its failure to arrest the soaring rice prices. "Though people are suffering from hunger, the government is not concerned about it."

The BNP leader came down hard on Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda and said his recent remarks exposed that he will act as per the Prime Minister's dictate.

He said the current Election Commission will not be able to hold a fair and credible election. "The CEC has also no intention to hold an acceptable and neutral election."

The BNP leader called upon all to get united to restore democracy in the country ousting the current regime.
