Case against Rubel goes to tribunal

Dhaka: The rape case filed by actress Naznin Akhter Happy against national cricket team pacer Rubel Hossain has been transferred to the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal.
Metropolitan Magistrate of Dhaka Ataul Haque passed the order on Monday after Rubel appeared before his court in the case.
The hearing on the final report submitted by police in the case will now be held with the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-5 of Dhaka.
According to the final report, Happy’s allegation of rape against Rubel Hossain was not proved by the forensic test done in this connection at Tejgaon Victim Support Centre.
Inspector of the support centre Halima Khatun submitted the report to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate court on 6 April praying for acquitting the national cricketer.
On 13 December last year, actress Happy filed the case against Rubel under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act 2000.
The High Court on 15 December granted Rubel an anticipatory bail for four weeks as he surrendered to it seeking bail.
On 6 January, the HC summarily dismissed a writ petition filed by actress Happy seeking the removal of the pacer from the Bangladesh National Cricket team squad.
On 8 January, a metropolitan magistrate court here sent the national cricketer to jail on his surrender, rejecting his bail plea in the rape case.
Later, on 11 January, responding to a fresh bail plea filed by the detained accused, acting Metropolitan Session’s Judge KM Imrul Kayes granted him the bail until submission of the police report on the case.
According to the first information report (FIR), Rubel had been involved in physical relationship with the actress for eight months.
It also said Rubel had promised to marry her and thus developed the physical relationship.
As Rubel reportedly backtracked, Happy filed the case alleging that Rubel raped her several times at his flat.
