Dhaka: Bangladesh Nationalist Party on Tuesday filed a case with Tejgaon Police Station against over a hundred unnamed ruling party activists in connection with Monday’s attack on the party’s chairperson Khaleda Zia’s motorcade at Karwanbazar, Dhaka during her electioneering.

BNP joint secretary general Mahbubuddin Khokan and lawyer Sanaullah Miah submitted a written complaint signed by BNP chairperson’s chief security coordinator Major Gen (retd) Fazle Elahi Akbar to the police station over the incident.

Tejgaon police officer-in-charge Mazharul Islam said they registered the complaint as a case.

Talking to reporters, Khokan, also the general secretary of the Supreme Court Bar Association, said over a hundred ruling party men attacked the BNP chief’s motorcade.

The attackers also shot at Khaleda’s personal vehicle, he added.

Earlier in the day, a ruling party leader filed a case against 100 unnamed people, including BNP Chairperson’s Security Force (CSF) members, for attacking Awami League activists during Khaleda Zia’s election campaign for the city corporation polls in Karwanbazar area.

Zahirul Haque Zillu, AL Dhaka ward no. 26 unit president, filed the case with Tejgaon Police Station as a complainant on Monday night, Tejgain police said.

BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia’s motorcade came under attack during her electioneering in the city’s Karwanbazar area in favour of her party-backed Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) mayoral candidate Tabith Awal on Monday afternoon.

BNP on Monday called countrywide hartal for Wednesday and protests on Tuesday protesting at the attack on its chairperson.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday termed the attack on Khaleda Zia’s motorcade ‘a drama' and called her to stop this and let people live peacefully.
