Cops file case against two gun-toting BCL leaders
Dhaka: Police filed case against two leaders of Dhaka South City unit of Bangladesh Awami League (BCL) who were seen carrying firearms during a clash in the Dhaka’s Gulistan area on Thursday.
The Shahbagh police Sub-inspector (SI) Abdul Mannan filed the lawsuit on charges of attempt to murder with the Shahbagh police on Monday night.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Ramna division Assistant Commissioner (AC) Ahsanul Ferdous on Tuesday afternoon told NTV Online the case was filed accusing BCL’s Dhaka South City unit’s General Secretary Sabbir Hossain, Wari Chhatra League’s General Secretary Ashiqur Rahman and some other anonymous persons.
However, another case was filed against anonymous persons with Paltan police over the incident during the eviction drive in Dhaka’s Gulistan area.
The BCL leaders, Sabbir Hossain and Ashiqur Rahman, were expelled from BCL, associate student body of the ruling Awami League on Monday for breaching the party discipline.
Earlier, on 27 October, ten people, including two Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) employees, were injured in a clash between hawkers and DSCC employees.
The clash ensued when the city corporation men went to conduct an eviction drive at the underground market in Gulistan.
During the clash, Sabbir Hossain and Ashiqur Rahman were seen with firearms. Some leading newspapers carried a picture showing Sabbir firing and Ashiq preparing to open fire. An official with a wireless set was also seen in the picture.
