Dhaka: Two MoUs were signed between Bangladesh and India on Saturday for improvement of cyber-security and IT sector.

A total of 22 documents were exchanged between officials of India and Bangladesh in New Delhi, in presence of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi.

Of the two deals, one Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed for cooperation between two countries on cyber security, while another one for the overall development of the IT Sector, said an ICT Division handout here on Saturday night.

The cyber security-related MoU was signed between BD CERT (Bangladesh Cyber Emergency Response Team) and CERT In (Cyber Emergency Response Team-India).

The two teams will cooperate with each other and will work jointly to solve all cyber security problems, according to the deal.

Another MoU was signed between ICT Division of Bangladesh and Indian Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.

The best practices on e-Governance, m-Governance, e-Learning, telemedicine sectors will be shared between the two countries, as well as common service centres will be set up in the rural areas as per the MoU.

The deal also emphasizes regulation of different IT services including Business Process Outsourcing, Business Process Management and Knowledge Process Outsourcing, and setting up hi-tech park and software park.

Under the MoU, the business-to-business partnership will be expanded between Bangladeshi and Indian IT organisations, and joint projects will be implemented with cooperation from government and non-government organisations of the two countries for research, development and innovation in the IT sector.

In a reaction over telephone after the exchange of MoU documents, ICT Division Secretary Subir Kishore Chowdhury said signing the two MoUs during the Prime Minister's historic visit was a milestone for the ICT sector of Bangladesh.

"The MoUs will play a vital role in building a Digital Bangladesh," he added.
