Dhaka: Billal, driver of Banani rape case prime accused Safat Ahmed, reportedly confessed before a court here on Sunday to his involvement in the crime.

Metropolitan Magistrate Mahmudul Hasan recorded the 'confessional' statement of Billal under section 164 of the penal code after Ismot Ara Ame, Inspector of Women Support and Investigation Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police and the investigation officer of the case, produced him before the court on completion of his four-day remand, said court sources.

Billal told the court that he filmed the rape incident, the sources said.

Earlier, on Tuesday, a local court put Billal on a four-day remand in connection with the rape case after a team of Rapid Action Battalion-10 picked him up from Ibrahim Hotel on Nawabpur Road in old Dhaka on Monday.

The two university girls were raped at the Raintree Dhaka hotel in Banani of the capital on March 28 last.

One of the rape victims filed a case with Banani Police Station on May 6 accusing five people - Safat Ahmed, Sadman Sakif, Nayem Ashraf, Billal and Safat's bodyguard.
