Dhaka: Strongly denouncing the attack on BNP top leaders' motorcade, its chairperson Khaleda Zia on Sunday said Awami League has now resorted to hooliganism and anarchism to perpetuate power.

In a statement, she also said, "The incident is another exposure of the current vote-less government's sickening and vindictive politics."

The BNP chief said the attack on senior BNP leaders, including its secretary general, is the government's an evil effort to remove the last sign of democracy from the country.

Khaleda Zia demanded the government immediately arrest the attackers and mete out exemplary punishment to them.

Earlier in the day, BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and some other party senior leaders were injured as local Awami League supporters allegedly attacked his motorcade at Isakhali in Rangunia upazila in Chittagong on their way to hillslides-hit Rangamati.

Terming the attack heinous and cowardly one, the BNP chief claimed that her party's 15 leaders, including Fakhrul, were injured in it.

"They've chosen chaos instead of peace, easiness and public security. Their main intention is suppress mass-protest by creating an appalling and scary situation in the country," she observed.

Khaleda Zia said the government obstructed the high-profile BNP delegation from visiting the disaster-hit areas only to hush its failure to take steps to face the human crisis and stand by victims in some districts of the greater Chittagong.

She warned the ruling party that people are waiting to make the accountable them for their all misdeeds. "People need not wait for a long time to do so."
