Mymensingh: A Mymensingh court on Sunday remanded eight people on a three-day police custody for interrogating in a case filed in connection with the death of 27 people in a stampede while collecting Zakat clothes in the town on Friday.

The accused include Nurani Jarda Factory owner and Zakat donor Nurani Talukder alias Mohammad Shamim, his son Hedayet and six employees of the factory.

Senior Judicial Magistrate Ahsan Habib passed the order when Kotowali Police Station sub-inspector Mushfiqur Rahman, who is the investigation officer of the case, produced them before his court seeking a seven-day custody.

On Friday, at least 27 poor women and children were killed and 50 others injured in the stampede as they crowded for receiving Zakat clothes distributed by local Nurani Jarda Factory near Mymensingh municipality office.

The eight people were arrested soon after the incident and a murder case was filed in this connection.
