16 Rohingyas die as trawler sinks in Bay

Cox's Bazar: At least 16 Rohingya people, including 11 children, died as a trawler carrying them capsized in the Bay of Bengal at Ukhiya upazila in Cox’s Bazar on Thursday.
Chailau Chakma, assistant superintendent of Police (ASP) of Ukhia-Teknaf circle, said the trawler carrying around 80 Rohingyas, who fled to Bangladesh amid persecution in Myanmar, sank in the Bay at about 3:30pm amid inclement weather.
Their bodies were recovered later in the afternoon.
Besides, 10 people suffered injuries in the incident and were admitted to Sadar Hospital.
Among the rescued, Abdus Salam, 24, who fled Rakhine along with his seven family members, said there were around 80 passengers in the trawler, and he lost his six family members in the incident.
Salam said he along with his bother managed to swim ashore. "The trawler capsized due to stormy weather," he added.
