Dhaka: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday reiterated her call to all, including teachers, students, guardians, religious teachers and people of various professions, to mobilise public opinion and wage a social movement against terrorism and militancy.

‘All will have to remain alert, mobilise public opinion and wage a social movement against terrorism and militancy so that no one can choose such wrong path anymore,’ she said.

Sheikh Hasina said this after receiving this year's Primary Education Completion (PEC), Junior School Certificate (JSC) and their equivalent examinations results at her official residence Ganobhaban.

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid handed over the JSC and Junior Dakhil Certificate (JDC) exams results, while Primary and Mass Education Minister Mustafizur Rahman Fizar handed over the PEC and Ebtedayee exams results to the prime minister.

The chairmen of eight general education boards and one madrasa board handed over the JSC and Junior Dakhil Certificate (JDC) exam results of their respective board to Sheikh Hasina.

Reaffirming her firm stance against militancy, Sheikh Hasina said such a standpoint has to be instilled in the minds of children and students. "We want peace and there’ll be no development without peace. Terrorism and militancy are not the path of Islam… Islam is the path of peace and there’s no place for terrorism and militancy in it."

The premier said even the holy Quran and the Hadith do not mention that terrorism and militancy is the path of this holy religion.

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid and Primary and Mass Education Minister Mustafizur Rahman Fizar spoke at the function while Education Secretary Sohrab Hossain conducted it.

PM's principal secretary Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury and press secretary Ihsanul Karim were, among others, present on the occasion.

Sheikh Hasina also electronically published the results of JSC, PEC and their equivalent exams on the occasion.

Extending her heartiest congratulations to all successful examinees as well as teachers, guardians, officials and employees of the ministries and education boards, Hasina said she was very much delighted that the pass rates increased this year.
