Suspected ABT man held over Ashulia bank robbery

Dhaka: Police detained a suspected leader of banned Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) from Dhaka’s Badda area on Sunday in connection with the bank robbery incident at Katgora in Ashulia that left nine people dead on 21 April.

The arrestee is Sumon, a leader of the Ansarullah Bangla Team.

A team of Dhaka district police conducted a drive in Badda area and arrested the militant leader; said additional police super Sheymol Kumar Mofazzir.

Details of the drive will be disclosed at a press briefing around 3:00pm.

On 21 April, eight people, including a bank manager and a robber, were killed and 23 others injured during a robbery bid at a branch of Bangladesh Commerce Bank Ltd at Kathgora in Ashulia.

On 22 April police filed a case against 12 people in connection with the robbery.
