Dhaka: Police on Wednesday sought a three-day custody for quizzing actor Kalyan Corraya over the road accident that left Daily Prothom Alo’s photojournalist Zia Islam critically injured.

The Kalabagan police Sub-inspector (SI) Omar Faruq Khan filed petition for three-day custody for interrogating Kalyan after presenting him before the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrates’ Court at about 1:00pm.

Plaintiff’s lawyer Prashanta Kumar Karmakar told NTV Online a hearing will be conducted over the custody petition at Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Majharul Haque’s court at about 3:00pm.

Earlier, on Tuesday afternoon, Prothom Alo’s Security Manager Major (rtd) Sajjadul Kabir filed a case with the Kalabagan police against Kalyan.

On 9 January, photo journalist Zia Islam sustained critical injury on his head and legs when speedy private car hit his motorcycle from behind at about 11:30pm.

Some journalists, who were present on the accident spot, took Zia to Dhaka Medical College Hospital’s Emergency Unit immediately. Later, he was taken to Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital.

A medical board of DMCH physicians suggested to send Zia to private hospital Apollo or to shift him abroad for better treatment at about 10:45am on Monday.

Later, according to the physician’s advice, Zia was shifted to Apollo Hospital.

However, on Tuesday night, Kalyan Corraya told NTV Online over phone he did not hit Zia’s motorcycle.

Kalyan said his private car collided with a truck in front of Tejgaon police station at about 11:30pm on 9 January, which left him and his friend, Rafique, injured. Later, they went to DMCH for receiving primary treatment.
